Hello everyone! My boyfriend and I grew zinnias for my sisters wedding this September! They look beautiful but we need tips on transporting them and how to keep them from drying out. We thought about ripping them up from the root and storing in gallon buckets overnight. Any tips would be appreciated!

Speaking as a florist, I would get those large buckets so that they can stand upright (a grid of cellophane tape or florists oasis tape can make the grid). In the bucket place water 1/3 rd of the way up, and no dirt or leaves under the water line. In the water place floralife powder or a teeny tiny few drops of bleach if you can’t buy floralife in bulk. Cut early in the morning and place into the water. Once you have a whole bucket, spray the flowers generously with a florist finishing spray like clear set or finishing touch. When that is not

available, use cheap, clear hairspray, like aqua net. You can spray lightly repeatedly rather than drowning it. Transport in an air conditioned vehicle. After flowers are dry, cover the surface of the buckets with wax paper or waxed tissue paper to keep the a/c draft off the flowers. Add water if you are on the road a long time. Also keep out of the sun and other heat sources. I would scatter cold dry ice packs on the floor by the flowers as well Good luck! Adding— thank you all so much for the kind words. I’m happy to do whatever I can to keep zinnias happy and healthy
